What Are the Steps in a Dental Crown Procedure

Are you looking for a way to replace a missing tooth? If so, an implant-supported dental crown could be right for you. We understand that you may have questions about the dental crown procedure in Del Mar, California, and we are here to help you. At I-Rise Dental, it would be our pleasure to help you replace a missing tooth with an implant-supported dental crown. What are a few of the steps involved?

Assessing Your Candidacy

Before we can place your dental implant, we need to make sure you are a candidate. There are a few factors we will consider. They include:

  • We will need to ensure there is a spot in your mouth for your dental crown and implant.
  • We need to make sure that you have enough bone and gum tissue to accept your implant.
  • If you are relatively young, we will need to make sure that your mouth is done growing before we can place your dental implant.

If we decide you are a candidate, we will review the options for your dental crown. We want to ensure that the crown matches your surrounding teeth and blends in with your smile.

Before & After Results of Patients

Placing the Post in Your Jaw

When it is time to place the post, we will ensure you are completely comfortable in the chair. Then, we will make an incision into your gum tissue and expose your jaw. We will drill a hole into the jaw where the dental implant will be placed. We will plant the post deep in your jaw to ensure it is firmly rooted.

After this, we will wait for your jawbone to grow around the implant and accept it. Once the bone and post are strong enough, you will return to the office to finish the procedure.

Placing the Abutment and Crown

The jaw will take a few months to bond with your dental implant. When it is time, we will bring you back to the office and place the abutment and crown. The abutment is the portion where the dental crown is going to attach.

Before placing the crown, we will discuss your options with you. We will ensure that the crown matches your surrounding teeth and blends with your smile. Once the crown is in place, the procedure should be finished. We will confirm you are completely healed before we advise you when to eat a regular diet.
